We also may ask or pray for guidance in
various ways and for many reasons as we deal with the many
issues life presents to us.
The idea of “getting guidance” has
become extremely popular over the past many years and it has
also been misused to justify irresponsible behavior in some
people who have failed to see its function in the process of
spiritual transformation.
I think this popularity of getting guidance has led to a
superficial use of it such as using it to try to win the
lottery, or a student using it to get answers for a test, or
using it to find a parking place at the mall, etc., all of which
I don’t believe is the intended purpose of guidance and
actually serves to hinder the flow of true spiritual guidance.
Using guidance in such ways is not allowing ego to get out of
the way, but instead it is allowing ego to stop the natural flow
of spiritual guidance.
True spiritual guidance is designed to take us into the deepest
part of our psyche and through our deepest fears, which in turn
leads us into our deepest faith. Faith, as a state of being is
the means by which we become in a state of balance. Faith sets
the stage for the ego part of us to surrender to and reconnect
with the greater spiritual part of us and in this guidance is
never irresponsible.
Guidance always keeps us responsible to
who we really are. Guidance is never a betrayal of our true
spiritual self and as we let go of our separated ego will and
follow the divine will that is communicated to us through
guidance we gain more and more trust in the guidance we
receive.
As we listen to and follow guidance we
automatically begin to build both physical and spiritual
endurance in which over time leads us to the unfolding of our
life’s purpose, which is to heal our self.
The creative flow of our core essence is not dictated by ego.
Ego always tries to make us feel safe, but it can never really
accomplish this because so much of ego is pretense. Ego must
surrender to the higher power within us. By surrendering to this
higher power guidance essentially takes us by the hand and leads
us step by step to systematically let go of our outer ego and
reconnects us to the original higher power within that we were
born with and in every sense we become a child of God.
In this we also find all the love,
wisdom and power of God within us and in turn we become an
instrument of God. In following our guidance we allow the Holy
Spirit to merge with our core essence and the combination of
this gives us great spiritual power that is not amassed in ego,
rather it connects our core with the power of the universal God.
